Since the average person spends about a third of his or her life sleeping, finding the right mattress type to sleep on each night is extremely important. But with so many custom mattress options available, deciding on one over another can be a challenge. Here’s a look at the pros and cons of innerspring versus foam mattresses, and how to determine which type is right for you.
Innerspring Mattresses
If you’re looking for variety when choosing a mattress, innerspring models may be the way to go. Since innerspring mattresses are customizable and, thanks to differences in coils, available in a wide range of sizes, prices, styles, and feels, there is likely a model to suit everyone. Coils are designed with comfort and support for different parts of the body in mind, so there are options that range from plush to firm. Innerspring mattress also tend to sleep cooler than a solid core foam mattress.
While innerspring mattresses will break down, a quality innerspring mattress will maintain its firmness for a longer period of time than solid foam core mattress. Rotating and flipping regularly, which is possible with our two-sided mattresses, will increase their lifespan. Mattress toppers are available in a variety of densities and firmness levels and can be placed on top of innerspring mattresses for added comfort. Unlike hybrid mattresses, which are constructed in a one-sided design, mattress toppers can be removed and replaced as needed, eliminating the need to buy a whole new custom mattress too often.
Foam Mattresses
Foam mattresses are all about the user’s comfort and health. When made with materials such as latex, foam mattresses are firm and supportive without being too inflexible, and they provide a stable sleep surface with minimal motion transfer. Latex mattresses also maintain a cooler temperature than other mattress types thanks to a breathable cell structure, which allows consistent airflow throughout the night for a more optimal sleeping temperature. As an added bonus, they are designed to be anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, and dust-mite resistant, meaning they’re safer for allergy sufferers and won’t succumb to mold, fungus, or mildew.
Despite the many benefits to foam mattresses, there are a few reasons they might not be right for every sleeper. For one, foam mattresses tend to present a “sinking” feeling that some people may dislike, which can make them a little difficult to move around on and get up from. Foam mattresses might also not be right for people on a tighter budget, as a high-quality foam mattress tends to be more expensive than other mattress types.
